Science

At Elm Tree, we believe that science nurtures curiosity and helps children make sense of the world around them. Through practical investigation and enquiry, pupils learn to think critically, solve problems, work collaboratively and develop the confidence to ask questions and seek answers. Using a range of enquiry approaches, including observing over time, pattern seeking, classifying, researching and fair testing, children build on prior knowledge, develop key scientific skills and learn to use evidence to deepen their understanding.

We use CUSP science as a base for curriculum support and planning. We use the language of the three scientific disciplines. Understanding these domains helps pupils to make connections across their scientific learning and develop a secure understanding of the world around them. This disciplinary approach helps pupils build scientific knowledge systematically while understanding how the different branches of science connect and complement one another.
