Elm Tree Primary Academy

Computing

Computing at Elm Tree is constantly evolving to reflect the rapid changes in the digital and online world. We use Kapow as the foundation of our curriculum while ensuring that learning remains relevant to our pupils’ experiences and needs. Many of our children come to school with a range of existing digital skills and experiences, so we adapt learning to build on what they already know, challenge them appropriately and deepen their understanding of technology. Online safety is embedded throughout all areas of learning, equipping children with the knowledge and confidence to make safe, informed choices in an ever-changing digital landscape. As technology develops, we review and adapt our curriculum each year so that children learn the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to become confident, responsible and capable digital citizens.

Assessment in computing is ongoing and embedded within every lesson. Recap and Recall activities, assessment quizzes and Knowledge Catchers help teachers monitor understanding, identify misconceptions and assess how well key knowledge and skills are retained over time.
